Britax B-Safe Gen2 Infant Seat – Introduction
The Britax B-Safe Gen2 Infant Car Seat was introduced to the US Market in 2021 and is one of the products that replaces, and improves upon, the older B-Safe 35 and B-Safe Ultra series of infant seats.
The B-Safe Gen2 is not an entirely new concept of car seat that has been built by Britax from scratch. Instead, they have taken all of the great features from the older Britax B-Safe 35 seat improved some of them.
There 3 different models in the new Britax B-Safe Gen2 range of infant car seats to choose from and the standard Gen2 version is the most basic product.
Having said that, it is still considered a premium infant car seat manufactured by a well-known and well-respected company with an established track record of producing high quality products. It meets all of the relevant federal safety standards, but it comes with a price tag to reflect the fact that it is missing some of the additional safety and convenience features that can be found on the more expensive Gen2 Flexfit and Gen2 Flexfit Plus models.
Not everyone can afford to buy the top-of-the-range Flexfit model and the standard Gen 2 seat is an excellent option for those parents and carers on a tighter budget who are still keen to buy from a reputable manufacturer.
If you would like to discover what the upgrades are on the Flexfit and Flexfit Plus seats, you can read my side-by-side comparison reviews of the B-Safe Gen2 range of car seats here:

In this review I am going to tell you about the main features that can be found on the B-Safe Gen2 infant car seat.
I hope that once you have read this review you will be in a much better position to decide whether or not the Britax B-Safe Gen2 seat is the best option for you and your child.
Britax B-Safe Gen2 – The Main Features
#1 Child Weight Limits
The B-Safe Gen 2 seat comes with child weight limits of between 4lbs and 35 lbs.
#2 Child Height Limits
The maximum child height limit is 32 inches.
So, both products are amongst the best infant seats available on the market when it comes to maximum child height limits. Children very often outgrow their infant seats by height before they outgrow them by weight and so this is a very important number to consider when choosing a seat.
NB: Looking at the maximum height limit is usually more important than looking at the maximum weight limit.
#3 SafeCenter LATCH & Safecell Crumple Zone
Despite being the most basic B-Safe Gen 2 seat, it still enjoys the benefits of Britax’s unique and patented SafeCenter LATCH installation system.
The seat and base are installed within your vehicle in 3 easy steps. You simply connect the lower anchors, pull straps to tighten, and then click the seat into the steel-reinforced base.
Both seats and bases are also manufactured with Britax’s Safecell crumple zone for added protection in a collision and better peace of mind. In short, the impact-absorbing Safecell base comprises a red “honeycomb” structure that help to absorb crash forces.
So, follow those 3 simple installation steps and you’re good to go!
#4 Easy-read Level Indicators
The Gen2 seat also comes fitted with easy-read level indicators to confirm when the seat has been installed at a safe and correct angle within the car, which provides much needed peace of mind to parents of young babies.
The level indicators are called “easy-read” because they can be viewed from all angles.
#5 Side Impact Protection
The Britax B-Safe Gen 2 seat comes with standard side impact protection, which is one of the compromises over the Flexfit and Flexfit Plus seats, both of which have the added benefit of a superior 2-layer side impact protection system.
The standard Gen2 seat still enjoys the benefits of the steel reinforced base.
The side impact protection features are focussed on adding more padding to the head, neck and torso areas of the seat, which are naturally the most vulnerable parts of a child’s body during a collision situation.
You can find images of the side impact protection features here.
#6 Seating Adjustments
The Britax B-Safe Gen 2 seat comes with a good selection of harness slot height positions – more than can be found on budget infant car seats, which makes it much easier to find a perfectly safe and comfortable fit for your baby’s unique shape.
The Flexfit and Flexfit Plus models are, however, more flexible and have a larger number of adjustment options.
The Britax B-Safe Gen 2 options are:
- Harness Slot Heights at 5/6.2/7.4/8.6/9.8/11 inches
- Crotch Buckle Strap Depths of 3.5 & 5.5 inches
#7 Harness Adjustments
The standard Gen2 seat comes with a 5-point harness.
The difference is that the Flexfit and Flexfit Plus models have a superior harness that can be adjusted very quickly and simply, and without needing to re-thread the harness every time.
This is probably the most important difference between the standard B-Safe Gen2 seat and the 2 Flexfit models. It is definitely a lot more convenient to have a no re-thread harness, especially if you want to take advantage of the wide range of height adjustment slots as you baby grows, but if you are happy and confident with re-threading the harness each time you make the adjustment, you can save some money by buying the standard Gen2 model.
#8 Seat Weight
The standard B-Safe Gen 2 seat is a little lighter than the Flexfit and Flexfit Plus versions, weighing in at 10.9 lbs, which is largely due to the less comprehensive side impact protection provided with the standard seat.
The seat can be used as part of a comprehensive travel system to reduce the need to carry the seat around.
Other Features Include:
- Steel reinforced seat base
- Stroller Compatible
- UPF 50+ Extra Large Canopy
- 1-Hand Harness Buckle Release
- Quick Push LATCH Connectors
- Certified for Aircraft Travel
- 6 year seat expiration
If you are interested in the enhanced side impact protection, better harness adjustment options, and European Belt Pathing, you should check out the Gen2 Flexfit model.
If want those enhanced features, and are also interested in the additional Anti-rebound bar option, you should check out the Gen 2 Flexfit Plus model.
