I have previously reviewed the Micro Mini Kick Scooter that is designed for small kids aged between about 1 and 5 years of age.
All of my kids started out learning to ride kick scooters from a very young age using the Micro Mini Kick Scooters (apart from the time I bought a cheap and nasty scooter for my twin boys that lasted no more than about 2 months before I threw it in the trash!)
The reason that I have decided to review the Micro Maxi Scooter is that my daughter (aged 5 years) recently started using one after she outgrew her beloved Micro Mini Scooter, and I just wanted to share my personal thoughts about this scooter.
If you are looking for a scooter for a toddler (rather than a child aged at least 5 years of age) then I highly recommend the Micro Mini Scooter instead. I honestly believe that the Micro Mini Scooter is by far the best first scooter available on the market today.
Not only is it a great performing scooter that is super easy for young kids to ride, but they are also pretty indestructible. I have a garage full of them now that most of my kids have outgrown them and they still work as well as they did on the day I bought them. I have never needed to repair them in any way. In fact, they are in such good working order after about 4 years of hard riding that they will be donated to other family members very shortly.
This is my Micro Maxi Scooter Review.
The main question that I want to address is whether the Micro Maxi Scooter is just as good as the Micro Mini Scooter?
The Micro Maxi Scooter’s Main Features
Those who have children that are outgrowing their Micro Mini Scooters will be very relived to learn that the Micro Maxi Scooter is essentially just a bigger version of the Micro Mini Scooter.
It obviously has 3 wheels just like the Micro Mini Scooter and also uses the same unique “lean to steer” mechanism that makes it so easy to control and so popular with those kids that like to cruise around on 3 wheels rather than try to ride a more traditional 2-wheel kick scooter.
Okay, so technically it has 2 rear wheel rather than 1, but they are so close together that they essentially function as a single wheel.
As I mentioned at the start of this review, my daughter recently graduated to the Micro Maxi Scooter after outgrowing her Micro Mini Scooter. We discussed the possibility of replacing it with a 2-wheel scooter, but because she just loves the control of the 3-wheel options she was adamant that she just wanted a bigger version of the Micro Mini instead.
Interestingly, my 7-year old twin boys wanted to go for 2-wheels when they outgrew the Micro Mini and you can read about their experiences with the Micro Sprite Scooter here.
So, aside from the 3-wheels and “lean to steer” mechanism that you can see in action in the videos below, what else do you need to know about the Micro Maxi Scooter before buying one for your child?
The Micro Maxi’s key features are:
- T-bar adjusts between 24 and 36 inches
- Suitable for kids aged approx 5 to 12 years
- Rear foot brake
- Lean-to-Steer
- Modular parts for easy replacement
- Lots of funky color options (see below)
- Optional pilot stick
Micro Maxi Scooter – My Verdict
The Micro Maxi Scooter is a great product and my daughter would ride around on it all day long if she could. There is only one very slight negative issue with the Mini and Maxi models – unlike the Micro Sprite, you can’t fold them up for compact storage or carriage. I’m afraid that this is just a natural consequence of the unique design of these scooters and their excellent “lean-to-steer” mechanism, which makes it impossible to add a “fold-up” function.
Personally, we haven’t had any real problems with the inability to fold up these scooters since my kids just tend to scoot off from the front door rather than drive other places to use them. If you do need to transport them, however, they are not particularly heavy and you can fit them in most vehicles if you just remember to retract the handlebar to its lowest setting. Unlike some other kids scooters, the handlebar adjustment system is very quick and simple to use – you just pull open the clamp, adjust and close the clamp. It shouldn’t take you more than about 10 seconds.
If you read the many other Fantastic User Reviews of this product, you will see that I am not the only parent who absolutely loves the Micro Maxi Scooter.
