Peg Perego 4-35 Infant Car Seat Review

June 10, 2014 By Kristian

US Price: $279.99
Weight Range: 4 to 35 lbs

The Good – LATCH base with anti-rebound bar; high child height/weight limits for longer use; Dual Stage cushion system is said to offer extra support to head and neck as a baby grows; 6 different side impact adjustment settings to increase chances of optimum safety fit; Easy to carry (light and ergonomic); Fits on any Peg Perego stroller without the need for an additional adaptor; Energy-absorbing EPS shell; At 8.8 lbs, it is 2.2 lbs lighter than the SIP 30/30 seat.

The Bad – Quite expensive.

The Bottom Line – Peg Perego have a reputation for manufacturing high quality and stylish child car seats and the 4-35 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat certainly appears to be no exception. It has been very well received and reviewed by industry experts (see videos below). It a little early to tell whether parents will agree with these initial assessments, but I will update this review as and when more user reviews become available. This degree of safety, comfort and style comes at a price, and the 4-35 model is slightly more expensive than many of the other premium infant car seats, like the Peg Perego SIP 30/30, the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the Maxi Cosi Mico AP.

Peg Perego 4-35 Infant Car Seat – Overview

This is my fully independent and objective Peg Perego 4-35 Infant Car Seat review.

The infant car seat has only just been released in 2014. Unlike the previous Peg Perego SIP 30/30 model, it is suitable for use between 4 – 35 lbs as opposed to 5 – 30 lbs. The child height limit is also higher than the SIP 30/30 model – 32 inches instead of 30 inches. Since most children outgrow the height limits on infant car seats before they outgrow the weight limits, this latter improvement is far more significant in terms of extending the lifespan of the seat.

You can read more about some of the differences between these 2 Peg Perego Infant car seats here.

The Peg Perego 4-35’s Best Features

The Peg Perego 4-35 gets excellent user reviews and, in my opinion, its best features are:

Easy to Use Belt-Routing System – Although I strongly recommend that you install the seat base (supplied with the seat) in your main vehicle(s) using the LATCH connectors (easier to get a correct fit), the belt-routing mechanism with “Right Tight System” makes it very easy to use this seat in taxi cabs and aircraft for those occasional trips. This can be a big problem with other more fiddly infant car seats, but with a little careful study of the manual and/or YouTube videos (see below), installing this seat using just the seatbelt ought to be a breeze. There is also a level indicator to help you position the seat at the correct angle.

Watch this helpful YouTube video from the “Car Seat Lady” showing you 2 different ways to install the Peg Perego 4-35 infant cars seat without the base using the car seatbelt:

Dual Stage Cushion System – The reason that this seat can be used with babies as small as 4 lbs (unlike other models that start at 5 lbs) is that it comes with a dual stage cushion system that makes it easy to get a snug fit. The adjustable 2-stage cushion provides your baby with much needed extra support to their bottom and neck areas and is made from a very soft and breathable fabric. This fabric is also easy to remove and wash. See Baby Gizmo Video below for more information about this feature.

Side Impact Protection – The side impact protection system adjusts to 6 different positions without needing to rethread the harness. It is essential that your baby’s safety in side impact collisions that their 5-point harness is correctly positioned as they grow and, in conjunction with the dual stage cushion system, the Peg Perego 4-35’s SIP adjustment system makes it easy to ensure a correct fit at all times. Watch the Baby Gizmo video below to see how easy this is to adjust with one hand.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review of this great car seat. I can fully understand why you love it so much – it is packed with great safety features, can be used for a long time and is lightweight at the same time. Sadly, I am not aware of any adaptors having been released onto the market yet that would enable the seat to be used with non-Peg Perego strollers. We all expected them to have been released by now, but it is taking a very long time for some reason. I am going to contact Peg Perego and see if I can get any more information out of them on this issue. I will email you if I get any joy.

      Best wishes,
      Kristian

Update: I have emailed Peg Perego to ask about adaptors for other strollers and this was their reply:

“Unfortunately at this time the 4/35 will only work with the Peg Perego strollers. The only two it won’t work with is the Skate and the Pliko Mini.

You will need to contact the manufacture of the stroller that you are interested in to see when they will be making the adapter.”

Hey the new car seat does have a new adaptor depending on which stroller you want to use. BOB stroller has an adaptor for this new car seat, which is amazing. Their website lists which adaport based on stroller and model of car seat! Good luc k and just double check your stroller manufacturer to see if they have released a car seat adaptor.

do you know if this base can be purchased separately and if if is compatible with the 30/30 seat? i like the rebound bar aspect of it but do not like that it is not compatible with other stoller systems (snap and go)

Thank you for asking this interesting question.

Unfortunately, the 4:35 base is not compatible with the 30/30 seat and no other stroller manufacturer has yet created an adaptor for the 4:35 seat.

Hi, i am expecting my third child and when I came across this car seat I literally fell in love with it right away! It is everything I wanted in an infant car seat! The lightweight, the fabric, the 32 inch capacity, I am super excited and cannot wait to start using it with my baby. The only downside, as you have mentioned, is the price, which brings my question: is it compatible with older and discontinued versions of peg perego strollers, such as the Pliko?

    Thank you so much,
    Alice

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my review of the Peg Perego 4:35 and congratulations on the imminent arrival of your third child!

I completely agree that this is a fantastic infant seat that has everything that one could possibly ask for. It is expensive but, if you can afford it, I have no doubt that you and your baby will absolutely love it.

I have double-checked the stroller-compatibility issue and can confirm that the Peg Perego 4:35 infant car seat is compatible with all Peg Perego strollers apart from the Skate and Pliko Mini.

I hope that this information is helpful and wish you all the best for the future. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if I can be of any further assistance.

      Kristian.

Its much easier to install and adjust than most seats. Its not only safe but is adorable. We get all kinds of compliments and its easy to attach in a car with pr without a base and goes great on our stroller. Peg never fails to amaze and id trust nothing else with our little one.
