The Good – DECT 60 digital crystal clear transmission; Good value for money in the US.
The Bad – Although the parent unit can be attached to a belt using the supplied clip and is fully portable, the baby unit is not and needs to be plugged into the mains at all times. The monitor is supplied with a built-in nightlight. However, it cuts out after 10-15 minutes so one wonders why the manufacturer put it there?
The Bottom Line – The V Tech communications Safe & Sound Audio Baby Monitor is a reasonable budget option if you a US customer.
Build Quality
V tech products are generally well made and his monitor appears to be no exception. Of course, for this price you are not getting high end materials but it will probably last a good few years if its looked after.
Key Features
- rechargeable batteries with up to 18 hours of monitor time (not sure it lives up to this boast)
- 2-way communication (although only 1-way at a time – like a walkie-talkie)
- DECT 60 digital crystal clear transmission
This is a very simple and east unit to use which does its job well. It is a no-frills option for those on a tight budget.
The sound quality is surprisingly clear for a budget audio baby monitor. Having used other similarly priced models and been annoyed by the static noise emitted by those models, this is a really important feature for exhausted parents trying to get some well-deserved sleep.
Customer Service
V tech is a fairly good company to deal with when things go wrong. I have not heard any complaints from people having difficulties obtaining replacement units when a fault has developed. These low-end units tend to develop faults more frequently than the more expensive ones and so customer service is an important factor in any purchasing decision.
Conclusions
For US parents, this unit is a steal provided you are happy with an audio monitor.
