List Price: $120
Type: Audio Monitor
My Rating: 80%
The Good – Room temperature alarm; DECT technology to ensure privacy of communications; 2-way communications; excellent range of up to 330 metres; out of range warning.
The Bad – the display is rather cramped and not very easy to read; it is quite expensive for an audio monitor; some of the features are unnecessary and could be removed to reduce the cost.
Build Quality
Philips products are generally well-built and this monitor is no exception. It is sturdy and built with high quality parts (by modern standards anyway!). The only criticism that I have is that the display is rather cramped and not very easy to read – an important factor when you are trying to read the display at 3am in the morning.

DECT Technology
DECT stands for “Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications”. It is the same system that is used to ensure that your cordless telephone conversations are not intercepted or interfered with by your neighbours’ devices. It guarantees zero interference from other transmitting devices (whether in your home or outside) and it’s data encryption system ensures that your communications remain completely private and confidential.
Conclusions
Having read many other reviews of this product it is clear that many are very impressed with the Philips Avent Dect Baby Monitor. The 4 different noise-sensitivity settings is certainly a useful addition. However, I think that it is slightly too expensive and would be prepared to pay a little extra for a video monitor. If your budget is fairly tightly set then this is probably the best audio monitor on the market for you.
