Graco Affix Booster Seats – Overview
The Graco Affix Booster seat comes in 2 different versions:
- backless
- highback
This Graco Affix Booster Seat Review covers the backless and highback versions of this seat. Both versions are very popular and choosing the right one for you will probably depend upon the size of your child when making this decision.
I have previously highlighted the problems associated with using backless booster seats for children as young as 4.
Unless and until your child is mature enough to sit upright for the entire journey without falling asleep, then they are not ready for a backless booster seat. The backless booster seats do not help to keep your child in a relatively upright position and the dangers of a child sleeping slumped across the backseat during an accident are serious and obvious.
Another important consideration with backless booster seats is that they do NOT have any adjustable system for routing the shoulder strap part of the adult seatbelt into an appropriate position across the child’s chest. When I briefly tested backless booster seats on my 4 year old twin boys, the seatbelt came down across the side of their necks in what appeared to be a very unsafe manner.
Highbacked booster seats tend to have a system for guiding the shoulder part of the seat belt into a safe position. They also provide much greater side-impact protection. The highback part of the seat can be removed when your child is too large to use it comfortably.
So, my general advice is to buy a highbacked booster seat if your child is still small enough to use one comfortably.
(1) Graco Affix Backless Booster Seat
This seat is suitable for children weighing between 40 – 100 lbs in weight and between 40 – 57 inches in height.
It is attached to the vehicle using the LATCH connectors, which prevents the seat from sliding around during use and (most importantly) in the event of an accident. You would be surprised at how many backless booster seat have absolutely no mechanism to keep them in place, yet they still manage to pass national safety tests!?
The seat also has an integrated cup holder and hide-away storage compartment to keep your child’s drinks and favorite things within arm’s reach.
It comes in 3 funky color options: sailor (see image to the right), kalia and pierce.
Key Features
- Secure connection keeps booster seat properly in place
- Keeps booster steady for easy self-buckling for your independent child
- Front adjustment allows you to quickly and easily tighten the booster to the vehicle seat
- Hide away storage compartment to store your child’s favorite things

Graco Affix Booster Seat – The Verdict
These are both excellent seats and deservedly get excellent user reviews.
I would recommend the highback version unless your child is already to large to use it comfortably – it is much safer to the have the shoulder seatbelt guidance system for smaller children and the additional side impact protection is also reassuring.
Safety Information
After purchasing any child car seat, you should always read the User Manual thoroughly before using it. It is also advisable to visit your local Fire Department or NHTSA Child Car Seat Inspection Centre to ensure that the seat is definitely suitable for your child’s specific requirements and that you have installed it correctly.
