On October 24, 2017 the Fisher Price company issued a Recall Notice in relation to more than 63,000 of its “Infant Motion” Smoothing Motions Seats.
These Motion Seats are designed to bounce, sway and vibrate in order to soothe your baby. It also plays 10 songs and nature sounds, and has an overhead mobile.
But, what exactly is the reason for this Fisher Price Infant Motion Recall?

Fisher Price Infant Motion – The Problem?
Fisher Price’s decision to recall more than 63,000 of its Infant Motion Seats was made upon discovering that there was a potentially very serious defect within the motor housing part of this product. In short, it was found that the motor was liable to overheat within the housing compartment whilst in use.
This obviously creates a risk of fire and serious injury or death to any child using the Motion Seat at the time.
Prior to making the recall decision, there had been at least 36 reported incidents in which the motor had overheated. Although no children suffered injuries, one of these overheating episodes did result in a fire developing and could have led to serious consequences.
Fisher Price Infant Motion – Affected Products?
There are thought to be about 62,000 affected products sold in the US and 2,000 in Canada.
The specifically affected seats are
- Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Seats with model numbers CMR35, CMR36, CMR37
- DYH22 and Smart Connect Soothing Motions Seats with model number CMR39

What Should You Do?
If your child uses one of these Motion Seats, what should you do about it?
The advice is pretty clear. You should immediately stop using the seat. Unfortunately, there is no repair scheme for this product and so, if you own one of them, you are entitled to a refund instead.
