In June 2017, Britax issued a Recall Notice affecting the chest clips on some of their very popular Britax B-Safe 35 infant car seats.
But, what exactly is the reason for this Britax B-Safe 35 Chest Clip Recall?
Which B-Safe 35 car seats are affected?
If your child uses one of these car seats, what should you do about it?
B-Safe 35 Chest Clip – The Problem?
Britax has discovered a potentially very serious problem with the B-Safe 35 Chest Clip that requires urgent correction.
The problem is that part of the chest clip can break off and young children are then able to take hold of this detached piece and place it into their mouths.
This obviously creates a very serious risk of choking and, ultimately, the potential for serious injury or death to your child.
The evidence from parents that led to this issue being discovered is that at least 3 children have been found with a piece of the chest clip in their mouths and they can only sensibly have gotten there if the chest clip itself is faulty.
Fortunately, none of these 3 children suffered any choking injuries and to their credit Britax has acted very swiftly upon being notified that there was a problem.
B-Safe 35 Chest Clip – Affected Seats?
There are thought to be more than 207,000 affected seats, all of which were manufactured between 1st November 2015 and 31st May 2017.
The affected seats are:
- Britax B-Safe 35
- Britax B-Safe 35 Elite
- BOB B-Safe 35
What Should You Do?
If your child uses one of the affected seats, what should you do about it?
Firstly, if you haven’t yet been sent the replacement chest clip by Britax, you should remove the existing chest clip from the seat harness and either dispose of it or retain it in a place that your child cannot access. Some people have suggested that you can keep the chest clip in place and simply monitor it for signs of damage on a daily basis, but I wouldn’t take the risk, especially since the seats are perfectly safe to use without the chest clip provided that you are careful to ensure correct harness positioning prior to every journey.
Secondly, you should contact Britax in order to obtain your replacement chest clip. Although Britax should already have contacted you if your seat has been registered with them, they have set up a website dedicated to resolving this issue.
The website provides all of the information that you need to rectify the problem and, if you enter your seat’s serial number into the box provided, they will tell you immediately whether or not it is one of those affected by this Recall Notice.
So, the best methods by which to contact Britax in order to remedy this problem are:
- Call (833) 474-7016
- Visit the dedicated website here
