For some people this won’t be a massive issue when deciding which high back booster seat to buy. If, for example, you have 1 or 2 children and a large vehicle, you can pretty much choose any high back booster seats and they will comfortably fit within your vehicle.
If, however, you have 3 or more children to accommodate in a single row or have to fit 2 seats inside a smaller vehicle, the width of a high back booster seat will be a very important factor to consider.
In my experience, in order for a high back booster seat to qualify as a “narrow” option, it must measure no more than about 17 inches across at its widest point. I say “at its widest point” because there are some seats on the market that boast narrow bases, but when you measure the shoulder wings or head wings they turn out to be pretty wide. Although a narrow base can be useful when trying to get access to the seatbelt buckle, if the seat is too wide at the top you are still going to potentially have problems fitting it into your vehicle.
So, which are the narrowest high back booster seats?
The Narrowest High Back Booster Seats
There are 3 series of high back booster seats that stand out from the crowd as being the narrowest and, therefore, most suitable for those who need to sit 3 car seats in a row or who need to fit 2 car seats inside a small vehicle.
The narrowest high back booster seats are:
1. Peg Perego Primo Viaggio HBB 120
The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio HBB 120 high back booster seat manages to combine a very narrow width with some very impressive premium safety features.
The HBB 120 seat is just 16 inches wide, which makes it the narrowest of my recommended high back booster seats.
It is suitable for use with children whose weight is between 40 and 120 lbs, and whose height does not exceed 57 inches. This maximum height limit is fairly standard for premium high back booster seats, but the maximum weight limit is at the top of its class.

2. The Diono Radian Seats
There are 3 seats to choose from in the Diono Radian series of combination harness to booster seats.
From the top of the range to the bottom, they are:
- Diono Radian RXT
- Diono Radian R120
- Diono Radian R100
Technically, they are harness to booster seats rather than just highback booster seats, but i have included them because they convert into highback booster seats are renowned for being excellent seats that are narrow enough for you to be able to fit 3 in a row.
Although there are some significant differences between these seats, they are all 17 inches wide.
They also all come with the following features:

3. Graco Affix Highback Booster
The Graco Affix Highback Booster seat is a reasonable option for those on a tight budget.
It lacks some of the additional comfort and safety features that can be found on the Peg Perego and Diono Radian seats, but comes with all of the basic requirements of a highback booster seat.
It is just 16.9 inches wide.
It other features include:
- Weight limit of 30 – 100 lbs
- Height limit of 38 – 57 inches
- LATCH connectors
- 4 very nice color options
- Engineered and crash tested to meet or exceed US standard FMVSS 213
- Side Impact Tested
